The Healthy Feet Project Risk AssessmentClues from the lesions

Clues from the lesions:

The most common lesions can give a clue to the likely origin of the lameness problems:

White line problem
White line problems are associated with poor walking and standing surfaces and cow flow
Sole ulcers
Sole ulcers often arise as a result of cows spending too much time standing. Comfort at the time around calving is particularly important
Digital dermatitis
Digital dermatitis will spread more easily if hygiene underfoot is poor
Foul in the foot
Foul in the foot – is more likely if cows’ feet are wet and muddy and the interdigital skin is damaged

More information on the above lesions can be found on the Types of problem page.
