Increased hygiene

There are two reasons for improving hygiene in your yards and passageways:-

  1. Slurry in the yards and passageways acts as a reservoir for the organisms that cause infectious diseases such as digital dermatitis.
  2. Exposure to slurry also softens the claw horn, causing it to wear down more rapidly and increasing the risk of claw lesions such as sole ulcer and white line disease. It is therefore important to minimise the amount of slurry in the environment of the cow.
